Doug Collins? Paxson, you took this long to pick Doug Collins?

The sports media outlets are reporting that the Bulls are set on picking Doug Collins as their next coach. Yes, this is the same Doug Collins that couldn't lead a MJ Bulls team to a championship, but somehow will get a Hinrich led Bulls team to a championship. Great, sign me up for those season tickets.

Its not that I think Doug Collins is a terrible coach. In fact, he is probably better than average. But to make a comparison, an average NBA coach is similar to the coaching skills of Art Shell or Jim Mora. Paxson selecting Doug Collins leads to two plausible conclusions: (1) Doug Collins fits Paxson's basketball theory better than all available candidates or (2) the other available candidates couldn't coach a trained dog to lie down. The answer is likely somewhere between the two. So after months of a coaching search that seemed to include interviews of 20+ candidates, we are back to Doug Collins. Seriously, there is no one better than Doug Collins out there?

What bothers me the most is that Paxson has allegedly been looking for a coach that he will get a long with. HEre's a thought, how about you get a coach that your players can get a long with. Isn't this the same Doug Collins whose Wizards players quit on him in Washington? And this occured when Doug Collins had the best player to ever play, MJ, as a staunch supporter.
So somehow, Doug Collins is going to get Tyrus Thomas and Larry Hughes to "want to play hard for him". I just don't see it.

Here's to hoping I am wrong.
