David Haugh, one of the few Chicago sport's writers I actually like, proposes that the Bears obtain Kurt Warner (See article here). He goes on to argue that "There would be no shame in Kyle Orton biding time behind a potential Hall of Fame quarterback such as Warner, who might have two good years left and be relatively affordable with a contract that reflects that."Yeah, just what I was thinking- Kyle Orton could use two more years to develop as a starting QB on the bench. You know, because those 4 years under Rex Grossman weren't enough. It is quite absurd that anyone, let alone a columnist for the predominant newspaper in Chicago, to think that (a) Orton will develop on the bench; and (b) the Bears should have the patience to develop a 4 year QB for another 2 years.
But let's get passed this point. Is Kurt Warner a good option? No. Sure Warner had a great year passing. But he also was passing to the best WR combo in the NFL in Fitzgerald and Anquan Bolden. If Orton had the weapons of Arizona, I believe he would have put up similar numbers (And I'm not even an Orton fan).
But even more perplexing is that Warner has shown over the last few years that when the going gets rough, Warner gets scared and throws interceptions. Warner is an over-the-hill quarterback who benefited from a great system and receivers in St. Louis and even better receivers in Arizona. He's good, but in no way should he be an option for the Bears. We need to go forward (read young QB with potential), not backward 4 years (Read Warner).
Unless the Bears bring in Larry Fritgerald, Bolden, and Torry Holt to Chicago, Warner shouldn't be an option. I admit that there exist few other alternatives in the market. But by going to Warner, the Bears would not only not get better, they would sacrifice the future of the QB position for another 3 years.
P.S. In my book (which means nothing I realize) Kurt Warner's not a hall of famer. He had 3 good years in St. Louis winning One Super-bowl (QB rating of about 100 each year) and had a good 2008 season (rating of96.9). Besides that he's been pretty mediocre and even awful (1998 QB rating of 47, 2002: 67, 2003: 73, 2004-2007: the 80's).

your an idiot, who wouldn't want kurt warner over kyle orton. Kyle Orton blows. Get rid of him, get rid of rex. Bring in a veteran that can win games for you and take control of your team.
I've been a Bears fan all my life and yea its been rough since the Super Bowl but the last thing we need is someone on their way out of the NFL. I think Orton has made leaps and bounds with a weak receiving core and we need a long term solution in Chicago not a short term fix. I love Kurt Warner, but haven't us Bears fans learned our lessons from changing quarterbacks every year and trying to sign short term solutions like Chris Chandler and Kordell Stewart? Both went to Superbowls like Kurt Warner and had good season before they came to us, so I know we didn't make the playoffs but lets worry about what really hurt us this season and thats our weak WR core,O-Line and Defensive weak spots.
I agree with the second reader's comment. It's the OL and WRs that are hurting the Bears not the QB. But I will add that I am not the biggest Orton fan. I would rather see someone else QB the Bears. But, I wouldn't want Warner, a guy who seems to want to retire every year. Instead, we should get a young QB or draft a QB (this year or next) to take over for Orton in 2-3 years.
The Bears need a plan and talks of Warner, Leftwich, or Simms are completely inadequate and will only result in mediocre outcomes.
I agree with all you guys....I work at a sports bar, get all the games, see all the teams and every angle. I eat sleep and live Chicago Blue and Orange....My biggest thing I saw with the Bears was consistency, and coaching being very passive and alot of the calls being made were just awful...like the Atlanta game...come on kick it deep...why the squib kick....we had a problem with the NFC South to that game...that win was our difference...You know they got a QB with great potential and to start them off with that field position....and then the consistency comes into play...defense needing to finish, face it we were bad on both sides of the ball when it came to finishing up the game...I also have to agree with you all on our reciever core...Berrian should have stayed, and tell me why did we resign Booker again....didnt we dump him for a reason...five yard drop plays and he drops passes like he has down syndrome...come on....I love Davis as a slot guy, LLloyd shows promise, and Hester is gonna be a beast as a deep threat, that OL has to give Orton time...but I really think he excelled over the last few years...he settkes in the pocket, doesnt get stuck on one reciever, and until the Minnesota game, rarely showed frustration by throwing silly picks...He didnt have high passing yardage and his qb rating didnt impress anyone, but come on...the kid needs help, we all agree on that....But since our Super Bowl loss, my boys havent shown any moxy, any luster...Urlacher lost fire, and the defense keeps getting hurt...makes me wonder if these players we have are just playin for a check...Im a Bears fan, always have been, and always will be, and as a Native Chicagoan I gotta say Im tired of our teams falling short...Weve always had great defense, but weve fallen short on leadership, coaching and solid QB and WR's to make plays...can we get this settled out so we can make the great Papa Bear happy....GSH forever!!!
